Based in East Surrey, with other clubs in Reigate and Merstham, RRKC was founded in 2020 although our roots date back to the mid 1970s when the original club was first founded. What is Karate?
Karate, meaning ‘empty hand’, is a Japanese martial art with its roots in the small island of Okinawa. In the early 1900s the Okinawan fighting art known as ‘Te’ (hand) was introduced to mainland Japan where it evolved into a modern combat system. Today, Karate is practiced by over 100 million people worldwide in a variety of styles. Often understood as a martial art which uses kicks and punches, karate also incorporates grappling, throws and a wide variety of combative knowledge.
