The most dangerous places to live in Reigate and Banstead – according to recent crime stats
The areas with the most and least crime in the borough of Reigate and Banstead has been released based on recent police statistics.
Statistics are divided into 12 policing wards with varying levels of crime taking place at each.
Surrey Police ’s figures show a total of 1,062 different types of crime were reported in the borough during June 2018 – working out at an average of more than 35 per day.
Here’s the top three areas with the worst recorded crime and where the rest come in most to least for the borough of Reigate and Banstead.
1) Banstead, Nork & Woodmansterne
Banstead , Nork & Woodmansterne saw 131 instances of crime recorded in June.
The highest type of crime was of a violent or sexual nature, with 40 falling into this category.
That means more than 30% of all the recorded crimes taking place in this area in June can be categorised as violence and sexual offences.
Banstead alone made up 90% of the crimes recorded, with HMP Highdown being the specific area with the most crimes, totalling 16 for the month.
Areas such as Brighton Road also attracted a hive of criminal reports with 22 crimes being recorded there and its surrounding areas.
2) Redhill Town
A very close second is the densely populated Redhill Town, which recorded 130 instances of crime in June.
The centre of Redhill Town saw 54 crimes take place over the month and just north of the centre, near Gloucester Road, there were 35 recorded.
Of the 54 that took place in the centre, 17 occurred at the Belfry Shopping Centre.
Antisocial behaviour is the highest recorded crime in Redhill Town, making up 27 of the 130 crimes.
3) Horley
Not too far behind is the town of Horley.
With double the population of Redhill, you would expect more reports of crime in Horley but this wasn’t the case in June.
Of the 104 crimes recorded in June, 80% took place in the centre of town, a figure of 84.
34 of these were in the Victoria Road area and 16 by the train station.
Violence and sexual offences also made up the highest proportion of crimes taking place in Horley with 24 falling into this category.
Antisocial behaviour was a close second for most reported crime seeing 23 instances.
