Trains unable to stop at Horley, Earlswood and Salfords stations after points failure near Gatwick Airport

Trains between Gatwick Airport and Redhill are unable to call at Horley, Earlswood and Salford due to a points failure on the line on Wednesday (March 28) morning.

Due to a failure of electricity supply, “significant disruption” is hitting Southern Rail and Great Western Rail commuters, who are being warned to expect major delays to London-bound services.

National Rail says the disruption is expected to last until 2pm on Wednesday and will affect Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express trains, which will either be delayed by up to 30 minutes, revised or cancelled, according to a press statement .

Several commuters have stated on social media seeing trains at around 8.20am that had been cancelled go through Earlswood and Salfords stations without stopping.

Viennese Strudel tweeted at about 8.30am: “Southern Rail UK why have you scrubbed pretty much every northbound service from Earlswood this morning? Some with no warning? Utterly disgraceful.”

‏The problems include a power supply failure at East Croydon, which has resulted in one of the lines through the station being forced to close.

Faults on the service through Horley, Earlswood and Salfords happened just before 8am, according to National Rail’s website.

A Govia Thameslink spokesman on behalf of Southern Rail said: “We apologise to passengers that owing to a points failure near Gatwick Airport station, we had to close the London-bound slow line from 8.05am to about 8.30am this morning, which meant that two trains were unable to stop at Horley, Earlswood and Salfords.

What's going on with missing out #Earlswood and #salfords stations on consecutive trains this morning @southernrailuk ?
