Surrey is in the midst of a serious heatwave with some parts of the county being starved of any significant rain fall for nearly four weeks.
So far we’ve seen roads melt , water shortages and last Sunday (July 8) was one of the hottest days on record with parts of Surrey reaching the early 30°Cs and Reigate registering a baking hot 32°C.
With temperatures in the early 20°Cs in Reigate early on Wednesday morning (July 11), and dry conditions continuing across the county this week, things are quite literally scorching.
Yet with glorious sunshine comes a terrible fallout, we’ve already seen a number of devastating grass fires in drier areas i ncluding Whitmoor Common and a field fire in Tilford .
According to the Met Office, Charlwood and Wisley have gone a staggering 24 days without any recorded rainfall.
The automatic weather station at Reigate Grammar school also recorded 24 days without a downpour.
But could this dry spell continue for Surrey and if not when should we be dusting off our umbrellas?
Well we could see tropical Storm Chris batter the UK in stark contrast to the oven-like blasts of warm air we’ve grown accustomed to in the last week.
One thing we could also be set to see more of, which could put an end to the dry streak, are thunder storms.
Friday (July 13) could indeed prove unlucky as thunder storms are expected to strike.
The Met Office has issued a warning for heavy showers with a 50% chance of rain for Guildford, however temperatures will remain hot and humid.
Remember if lightning does strike near your part of Surrey, and you’ve got it on film from a safe distance or the comfort of your home, you can send photos and videos to our news desk at surreylive@reachplc.com.
