Victoria Road in Horley will be closed for at least eight days from Monday (July 23).
The closure will be 24-hours-a-day for emergency road repairs and major resurfacing work, including deep excavation, in the town centre.
Victoria Road will be completely closed for the 500m stretch between the library to the junction with Consort Way.
Other parts of Victoria Road may be affected at various times while resurfacing work takes place.
The 22 and 100 buses will not be accessible from Victoria Road or Massets Road and will miss out the centre of Horley.
The 424 will be diverted via Massets Road and Brighton Road.
Traffic diversions will be in place around the area.
The closure has caused frustration with local businesses.
Frank Berrington, who owns Magpie Jewellers on Victoria Road, said: “The trouble is that all our offices have been converted to flats so they need to be connected to drainage and that causes a lot of problems. But what can you do?
“No one ever worries about the disruption to the businesses down Victoria Road.”
